My guest on this episode of the Magic Newswire's "Spirit of Magic" podcast is more than just an amazing performer, he's a respected thinker and creator in the art of magic and mentalism. Banachek was also a part of the now famous Project Alpha hoax in which he convinced scientists from Washington University that he was actually demonstrating paranormal abilities. Banachek is now a sought after consultant and performer who has worked with such performers as Criss Angel and Penn & Teller to develop material for their acts. Join us in this episode as we talk about his notorious history in the art and the 75th Anniversary of the Jinx released by Genii Magazine in October.

Today we lost yet another true luminary in the world of magic, Marvyn Roy, better known to many as Mr. Electric."  Marvyn and Carol Roy performed the "Mr. Electric" Act for over fifty years. Mr. Electric toured the world during the fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties. Marvyn & Carol were featured at  Radio City Music Hall, the London Palladium, the Latin Quarter, Gorky Park in Moscow, the Ed Sullivan Show and the Hollywood Palace. Whether working hotels, ice shows, floor shows, night clubs, theaters, arenas or amusement parks, Mr. & Mrs. Electric led a life that most magicians only dream of experiencing. Marvyn 95. I interviewed Marvyn in 2009 and hope that you will enjoy remembering him along with me by revisiting this interview.   In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dai Vernon Foundation

A long time promise is now fulfilled for MagicNewswire Podcast listeners.  Some time ago, I recorded a fantastic interview with "Magician's Magician" Armando Lucero.  Unfortunately, due to a perfect storm of technical issues, I thought that it had been lost.  In addition, time constrains placed upon me by my nob and family have prevented me from dedicating the time needed to try and recover this gem.  Fortunately, I st aside some time and have managed to resurrect this conversation.  Armando needs little introduction to magicians around the globe.  He is an amazing performer and teacher who is much in demand for his lectures on magic an an art form.  It was a pleasure having him with me on this episode of the "Spirit of Magic" podcast.  I hope that you enjoy it!

Among the top stories of 2015 in the world of magic was Mat Franco's winning the ninth season of "America's Got Talent."

Keep on mind that 73 magicians or magic acts have appeared on the whow over the years including the Pendragons, Kevin James, Murray Sawchuck, Michael Grasso, Nathan Burton, Brett Daniels, Rudy Coby, Bizarro and many more.

Mat became interested in magic after seeing a special featuring several magicians when he was only a few years old and immediately began performing for his class at show and tell.  The rest as they say is history.

Rob Zabrecky has worked throughout the United States and Japan as a magician. He is best known for performances in which he combines irreverent dark humor and mentalism. Since 2002 he has been a regular performer at the Magic Castle. In 2003 he formed the off-beat magic trio, The Unholy Three in the basement of that establishment by presenting a provocative Dada-esque combination of wizardry, mentalism and off-beat humor. In 2008, 2009, and 2010 The Academy of Magical Arts at the Magic Castle named him among the top five magicians for his performances inside the club's Parlour of Prestidigitation.

Who was S.W. Erdnase? Most likely, anyone reading this knows this name as the pseudonym used by the author of "The Expert at the Card Table" which is arguably one of the most important books ever written on sleight of hand with cards. On this episode of the "Spirit of Magic" podcast, I am joined by David Ben & Julie Eng of Magicana and the publishers of Magicol. Yes, we do discuss who David, Richard Hatch and others believe to be the man behind Erdnase, but we also discuss the most recent online exhibition from Magicana, "EverythingErdnase.com" which was developed with the help of Jason England and which examines the many ways in which Erdnase has been presented in print since it first appeared in 1902.

In 2008, Neil Patrick Harris & Guy Hollingworth began a colaboration.  Following a sold out run at the Edinburgh Festival and a series of international shows culminating in a  sell-out success at the infamous Magic Castle in LA and an amazingly well received presentation at Stan Allen's "Magic LIVE," Guy Hollingworth begins a new presentation of  his acclaimed one man show, The Expert at the Card Table " in Los Angeles today.  In his one man show, Guy presents amazing exhibitions of card chicanerywhile telling a fascinating tale of trickery, deceit and death. Based on the book of the same name, The Expert at the Card Table tells the story of two boys whose innocent love of card tricks develops in adulthood into a dangerous game of hustles, street cons and murder. Published anonymously in Chicago in 1902, the book describes in great detail, original and brilliant methods for conjuring effects, whilst at the same time revealing the author's true intent, a full exposé of the underground techniques used by hustlers, card cheats and con artists.   This performance begins today, July 13th at the Edye at the Broad Stage and runs through August 7th. One of the highlights of my year in magic for 2010 was the opportunity that I was given to participate in Jamie D. Grant's "Send Wonder Campaign" in which I participated in his street art experiment by dropping off bottle #79.

Since then, Jamie has started yet another "Impossible Bottle Campaign", but there is yet another question to be answered. What ever happened to Bottle #100?

In this interview, Jamie discusses his interest in street art, how he combines his career in magic with is day job as a paramedic. Oh... and don't forget that he also writes a popular blog reviewing magic effects as they are released, "Magic Friday!"

Swedish card maestro Lennart Green has been baffling audiences for years with his chaotic style of magic. In 1991 he won the grand prize in close-up card magic from the International Federation of Magic Societies (FISM). He almost won at FISM in 1988 except for the fact that his act so fooled the judges that they were convinced that he had used stooges and disqualified him. His magic has taken him around the world and even led to his appearance on NBC's The World's Greatest Magic. I recently had the opportunity to meet Lennart when he was in Atlanta for the "Gathering for Gardner" and we discuss his interest in this unique gathering as well as his passion for magic in this episode of the "Spirit of Magic" podcast!

David Williamson awoke one morning on his parents farm in Ohio and a cow was levitating out of the window. He looked down to see that she had already been milked. That's when he knew he would go into magic. Ever since that time, Dave has been trying to duplicate that feat.  Dave wanted you to know that as a child, he always wanted to be a professional magician. As an adult, David wants to be a doctor. For the past 20 years he has performed for every blue and gold banquet in America.  All kidding aside, David has done everything and been everywhere and has appeared on TV both nationally and internationally.  I was thrilled that David would take time from his busy schedule to visit with the listeners of the Magic Newswire's podcast and I am sure that you'll enjoy the journey that he takes us on in this episode.
